Week 7 Email


 
From an army of dogs ruling the streets 👑🐕, cars and bikes covered in speakers 🔊 and hearing about the sad news about our Prophet's passing. This week has been wild to say the least. Throughout the week the work has been moving forward pretty well, other than at night... Our area is in a pretty rough part of Auckland and is somehow apart of our mission and not the Auckland mission. But when I say it is rough part of town, it's like the Compton of new Zealand basically.  If it's not the police helicopters that wake me up, it's either the dogs or the speakers. A couple nights ago at about 1am I wake up to what sounds like and army of dogs outside my window. Unsurprisingly I look out the window and there is about half a dozen stray dogs 🐕 roaming around our driveway and the road. On Wednesday night at about the same time I heard super loud music 🔊. I once again looked out the window and to no surprise saw that there were some guys with bikes that had car batteries strapped on and hooked up to these speakers that looked like sirens and just rode around the neighborhood blasting remixed Miley Cirus music. So other than the sleep some nights, the work has been successful. Me and my companion had a experience this past week where we were biking home from a dinner with our stake president and as we were biking we heard a massive crashing sound and to our right we saw that a four wheeler and fell out of a trailer and was dragging on the ground. He pulled over right next to us and we helped him fix his trailer and got his four wheeler back on his trailer. The best part of this is that he had been wanting to meet with missionaries.  He was a member but he said that he still wanted to meet with missionaries. This has reminded  that everything is on the lord's timing. Whether it be a trial we are going through, or something that happens unexpectedly in our lives, God is in the details.  After hearing about the passing of our Prophet I listened to his last conference talk again about confidence in the presence of God. This reminded me again that God is in the details of everything in our lives and that when we realize that and strive to improve and be more like him we will have confidence in the presence of God.  I hope you all have a great week and thank you so much for the support! Evan says this is common for people to drive around with speakers blasting music.  He says it’s super annoying 😆

We had our very first call with Elder Dance today!  He called around 4 pm (10 am NZ time).He has been in the Auckland MTC for 4 days now.  He will leave for the mission office on September 4th.  It was so good to talk to him!  He loves his MTC president, President Young from SLC.  He and his companion lucked out with a big missionary married couple room and a big bathroom—he’s living in the lap of luxury.  He also scored a seat with a lot of leg room on his long flight.  Evan’s Highlights this week: 1. Evan’s First Email!

Dear family and friends, Wow! It has already been nearly a week in the mtc and now I am sending my first email home. How time flies.  Over the past week I have already had an amazing experience at the MTC and despite the food 🤢, I have had many amazing spiritual experiences and I have felt my testimony grow in such incredible ways  One of the things that has grown my testimony is realizing that I will be spending 24/7 serving the lord!  The realization of this has not only given me more joy to serve a mission but it has also made my day to day life better. It has made me become  more accountable with morning and evening study and it also has given me inspiration to pray whenever I have the time and opportunity to pray! Week 4 Email, 1st Week Out of the MTC

Elder Dance loves his new companion, Elder Smith, from Austin, Texas. Elder Smith is a district leader and an awesome example and trainer for Evan.  Elder Smith also makes sure they get in a hard workout every morning. Elder Dance claims this is the best ice cream he has ever eaten. Even better than the iced ice cream we ate at Gracie’s Apizza in Portland in July. Elder Smith, Elder Tuaga, and Elder Dance Kia Ora!! This past week has been awesome! First transfer into the Alfirston district in the Manurewa zone in South Auckland!  I love my trainer and his name is Elder Smith! In New Zealand they call apartments "flats" so me and my companion share a flat with another companionship which has been a ton of fun.   My favorite thing about my area so far is the members of our ward.  They are all so kind and it is a privilege to visit and serve them.
