First FaceTime with Evan!

We had our very first call with Elder Dance today!  He called around 4 pm (10 am NZ time). He has been in the Auckland MTC for 4 days now.  He will leave for the mission office on September 4th.  It was so good to talk to him!  He loves his MTC president, President Young from SLC.  He and his companion lucked out with a big missionary married couple room and a big bathroom—he’s living in the lap of luxury.  He also scored a seat with a lot of leg room on his long flight.

Evan’s Highlights this week:

1. Walking past the temple on the MTC grounds

2. Meeting his companion, Elder Moody, from Maryland,  and meeting other new friends from Australia, Tonga, South Korea, Canada

3. Playing sports—soccer with the Tongan missionaries

Spiritual Highlights:

1. Realizing what life will be like as missionary

2. Devotionals

3. Prayer and study with his companion

Biggest Challenge this week:

1. Stressed about not getting Facebook messenger to work to be able to call home

2. Studying chapter 3 from Preach My Gospel yesterday and not knowing what to say

  4. From Grandpa Gary:

This is a choice day to respond to your first letter and wish you the best in your mission. It is a fight and I want you to remember that. I know we teach in love and respond in kindness but don’t ever forget that it was called a war in heaven and Satan has made it that now particularly now on your mission and it is still a war and we fight Satan every day and we have won and can win and I want you to remember that. How do we fight with our preparation our understanding of the fight we love we obey and we fight. You can do it every day in every way and you can win. I know your spirit your preparation and your fight and you will win. Never give an inch and the Lord will bless you always. That is your first advice from Grandpa and I will not ever tell you different you need to stay with it all the time and you will be successful. Remember you are loved you are strong and many think about you all the time and are in the fight with you pray for you and will do anything for you. So get going and dig in and this is real and we play for keeps. Love Grandpa. 👴

  5. Sounds like Evan had a much easier first day than his dad had on his first day in the mission!
